NEWARK, Del. – After going into the week 8-0, the Wilmington University men's soccer team lost their first game of the 2019 season, and are now ranked No. 19 in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II National Poll, while remaining in the third place spot in the East Region.
The men were previously No. 15, which was their highest ranking of the season so far, but have dropped four spots to take over as the No. 19 team in the country. The Wildcats lost their first game of the season to Holy Family, 2-0, while tying with CACC foe Post, 1-1, last week.
Adelphi remains in the top spot in the East Region, as they are the only team to remain undefeated throughout nine games, while Mercy lost their first game of the season as well, as they remain in the second spot in the East.
Post and Le Moyne both moved up two spots in the East Region to take over the No. 4 and 5 spots, respectively, while Assumption dropped all the way to No. 10 from No. 4 last week. CACC crosstown rival, Goldey-Beacom entered in the East Region poll at No. 9 after going 2-0 last week.
Nationally, Adelphi dropped to No. 4 as undefeated Azusa Pacific University took over the top spot. Wilmington now sits between West Chester, who is ranked No. 18 and Fort Hays State University who is No. 20. Mercy also dropped three spots in the national poll, going from No. 8 to No. 11 this week, after falling to CACC contender Georgian Court, 1-0.
The Wildcats will have their final nonconference matchup of the season on Wednesday, as Staten Island comes to Newark, before they head to Bloomfield on Friday night.
