NEWARK, Del. - - The 2025-26 academic year proved to be another record-breaking campaign for the Wilmington University Athletic Department, as the Wildcats finished a department-best 54th in the Learfield Directors' Cup, a ranking of all NCAA Division II institutions by the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

Much like how teams in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) accumulate points through regular season and CACC Tournament in competition for the Restaino Cup, athletic departments earn points towards the Learfield Directors' Cup by their success in the NCAA Regional and National Tournament in each sport. The Wildcats shattered its previous record with a total of 346.0 points this past academic season, 271.0 coming from the success of six spring sports programs.

The Wildcats' 54th place finish is the best the department has ever done, improving upon its 74th place finish from last year. It is just the third time the department has finished inside the Top 100 among the 299 full NCAA Division II institutions. The Wildcats finished 74th with 270.50 points last year and 79th in 2021-22 with 261.50 points.

The Wildcats were the top team in the national standings among fellow CACC programs, as Thomas Jefferson finished 62nd overall with 324 points. Felician is the only other CACC institution inside the top 100, finishing 99th overall with 225 points. The Wildcats were also the third best department in the East region this season, finishing behind two teams from the Northeast 10 Conference. Adelphi led the East Region with 475 points for 33rd overall while Bentley was 50th with 357 points. Roberts Wesleyan was the best of the East Coast Conference with 303 points for 68th overall.

Wilmington accrued 75 points in the fall, as men's soccer made it to the Second Round of the NCAA Super Region 1 Tournament for 50 points and women's soccer won the CACC Tournament and finished 33rd overall in the NCAA Tournament for 25 points. The bulk of the scoring came in the spring season, with baseball and women's tennis claiming 50 points each for 17th place finished. Donte Dockery's second place finish in the triple jump at the track and field national championships had the team in 26th overall for 46.5 points while men's and women's lacrosse each reached the Second Round and picked up 45 points each as well. Men's golf reached the Super Regionals, claiming the remaining 34.5 points for the Wildcats.

Grand Valley State won its sixth consecutive and 18th overall Learfield Directors Cup with 1089.75 points in 20 total sports. The Lakers took home the title in women's basketball, women's cross country and men's outdoor track and field. Wingate finished second with 892.50 points while Indianapolis finished third overall with 832 points.
