Chestnut Hill Starts Fast in CACC Victory over Women’s Basketball

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - - Chestnut Hill overcame an upstart Wilmington University women's basketball team with a big first-quarter run, taking the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest, 81-40, on Wednesday night inside Sorgenti Arena.

The Wildcats raced out to a quick 5-0 lead with a three-pointer from Mya Nisbet and a layup from Reynah Ratliff, but then went cold from the floor, missing their next seven shots and committing eight turnovers. Chestnut Hill (13-10, 10-5 CACC) hit three three-pointers on its way to a 19-0 run over the next 7:37 of the quarter to take control.

TyKeisha Hill ended the drought with a layup at the buzzer, but the Griffins have opened a 19-7 lead after the first quarter.

Emma Brown and the Griffins traded buckets to start the second quarter, with Brown going 3-for-3 with six points in the first three minutes. In all, Brown finished with nine points in the second quarter, shooting 4-for-5 from the floor and 1-of-2 from the foul line while grabbing three rebounds as well. But the Griffins extended their lead at the half, taking a 39-20 lead into the break.

After Emma Brown had a personal 5-0 run in the middle of the third quarter, the Griffins took over again, going on a 13-0 run to grab a 58-25 lead in the frame. Brown scored all seven points of the third quarter for the Wildcats, shooting 3-for-5 from the floor.

Sparkle Leigh scored the first four points of the fourth quarter, but the Griffins responded with an 8-2 run to put the game away for good.

Emma Brown finished with 19 points, eight rebounds, and four blocked shots, shooting 8-of-16 from the floor. Reynah Rattliff added 10 points, two rebounds, and two assists as well. TyKeisha Hill scored four points while grabbing seven rebounds and adding two blocked shots.

The Wildcats remain on the road over the weekend, as they head to Post on Saturday night. The Wildcats and Eagles battle in Waterbury, Connecticut, starting at 5:00 p.m.
