Wildcats Head Back to Semifinals with 19-4 Victory over Chestnut Hill in CACC Tournament First Round

NEWARK, Del. - - The third-seeded Wilmington University women's lacrosse team is headed back to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament semifinals for the seventh year in a row, defeating sixth-seeded Chestnut Hill, 19-4, on Tuesday at the WU Athletics Complex in the First Round.

The win sets up a rematch of last year's semifinal with No. 2 Jefferson in Philadelphia. Thursday's semifinal will be played at Ravenhill Field starting at 3:30 p.m. The Wildcats have advanced to the semifinal round every year since 2019 but have not been able to get over the hump and into the championship match.

On Tuesday, the Wildcats scored the first 11 goals of the game, including an 8-0 first quarter. The Wildcats used five different goal scorers in the first quarter, with Ella Royer scoring three times and Alea Javorowsky scoring twice. Eden Ward scored a goal to make it 11-0 in the second quarter and then Chestnut Hill got on the board with a goal with 4:29 to play in the half. Madi Todd capped the scoring in the second quarter, making it seven different goal scorers in the first half.

Michaella Cook and Tristan Holdsworth opened the scoring in the third quarter before Anastasia Giannoulis and Holdsworth scored back-to-back goals again to make it a 16-2 lead.

Michaella Cook, Ella Royer, and Leah Rycroft all scored in the fourth quarter, settling the final score at 19-4.

All told, the Wildcats featured nine different goal scorers on Tuesday while the NCAA Division II leaders in points scored per game added 33 more points by assisting on 14 of their 19 goals.

Ella Royer led the goal scorers with four goals and two assists, adding five draws. Alea Javorowsky had a team high seven points with two goals and five assists. Both Royer and Javorowsky recorded their 100th point of the season in the win.

Tristan Holdsworth scored three goals while dishing out three assists while Leah Rycroft added three goals, an assist, and three draws. Kirra Crowley and Michaella Cook added two goals and an assist each.

Allison Schiavone started and recorded nine first half saves before Ashleigh Lawry closed out the victory by making six stops.

Thursday's semifinal at Jefferson is set for a 3:30 p.m. opening draw.
