NEWARK, Del. - - A big third question enabled Georgian Court to pull away from the Wilmington University women's basketball team, 82-63, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest on Wednesday night at the WU Athletics Complex.
Take away the 21-8 third quarter advantage for Georgian Court (11-16, 10-9 CACC) and the Wildcats (1-26, 0-19 CACC) were right in the mix, 61-55.
TyKeisha Hill put in an old-fashioned three-point play to give the Wildcats a 7-3 lead in the early going. A three-pointer from Armani Bell-Jackson made it a 10-6 lead before the Lions tied it at 10-10. Leanna Masseus finished a fast break layup form Reynah Rattliff for the 14-12 lead, but the Lions answered with a 5-0 run to take the lead Trinity Fortune-Medine hit a jumper to finished off the scoring in the quarter, bringing the Wildcats to within 20-18 after the quarter.
Emma Brown scored the first six Wildcat points of the quarter, giving the home team a slim 24-23 lead. Armani Bell-Jackson hit a floater for the three-point lead, but the Lions answered again with a 6-0 run. Mya Nisbet tied it with a three-pointer, 29-29, but the Lions again went on an 8-0 run to take the lead. Bell-Jackson hit a three to stop the run and then Brown converted an old-fashioned three-point play to get to within two points, 37-35. A final three-pointer from Reynah Rattliff brought the Wildcats to within 41-38 at the halftime break.
Emma Brown hit a pair from the foul line to cut the deficit to 47-43, but then the offense went could. The Wildcats would miss their next 12 shots, including two from the foul line. The Lions went on a 15-0 run, taking as large as a 19-point lead in the quarter. The Wildcats scored the final three points from the foul line in the quarter, but GCU held a 62-46 lead after three quarters.
The Lions used a 7-0 run in the fourth to take their largest lead of the game, 69-48. The Wildcats were able to whittle the lead down to as few as 15 points but couldn't get any closer the rest of the way before settling on the final score, 82-63.
Emma Brown collected her ninth double-double of the year with 19 points and 14 rebounds, adding three steals as well. Sparkle Leigh scored 12 points while adding seven rebounds and three assists. Armani Bell-Jackson came off the bench and scored 10 points while TyKeisha Hill chipped in with nine. Reynah Rattliff scored five points but also had seven rebounds and eight assists.
The Wildcats have one game remaining in the 2025-26 season, as they host Dominican on late Saturday afternoon for Senior Day. The opening tip is set for 4:00 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.
