Wilmington College Baseball Announces 2007 Recruiting Class

NEW CASTLE, DE – Wilmington College Baseball Coach Brian August and his staff are pleased to announce their recruiting class for the upcoming 2007 season. 

The Wildcats have added 14 student-athletes in this year's recruiting class, including seven recent high school graduates.  Highlighting the additions are first-team All-State selections Cameron Saienni (McKean HS), a left-handed pitcher and right-handed pitcher/infielder Evan Lewis (Dickinson).  Matt Botting (Newark) was a second-team outfield selection and fellow outfielder Ron Eckert (Rising Sun HS – MD) was a first-team All-County award winner.  The other incoming freshmen include right-handed pitchers Steve Messick (William Penn HS) and Danny Rivera (New Brunswick HS – NJ), catcher Chaz Losito (Avon Grove HS – PA).

The seven transfers are highlighted by a trio from Cecil County Community College.  They include catcher Mike Wilson, the Junior College Player of the Year, and outfielder Spike Austin and right-handed pitcher Clint Kuhl, who all received All-Region honors.  Each will be entering their junior year of eligibility.  First baseman Joe Danks (Delaware State), a junior, and incoming seniors, catcher Sean Joyce (University of Maryland – Baltimore County), outfielder Jason Rust (Delaware State) and right-handed pitcher Kori Wade (Francis Marion) round out the recruiting class. 

"We are thrilled to have these players join us and look forward to their arrival in September", stated August.  He added, "These additions give us depth at every position, and bolster an already strong pitching staff.  It should make for some very competitive baseball here at Wilmington College."

Wilmington College is an NCAA Division II institution that competes in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.  Wilmington finished the 2006 regular season with an overall record of 30-21 and a CACC record of 21-6.  The 'Cats advanced to the CACC Semifinals before falling to eventual champion Dominican College by a score of 2-1.
