NEW CASTLE, DE – The baseball duo of Matt Umba (Gloucester Catholic HS/West Deptford, NJ) and Joe Harris (Daniel Boone HS/Douglassville, PA) were recently named to the NCAA Daktronics All-American Team for their performances this past season.
Umba, a senior utility player, was a 1st Team American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and NCAA All-Region selection and also earned 2nd Team National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) honors. He was also a 1st Team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) award winner. Umba led the 'Cats in hitting with a .368 average, while also topping the squad in hits (64). He was second on the team in RBIs (35), stolen bases (20), total bases (86), and slugging percentage (.448), while finishing third in runs (40) and doubles (12).
Harris, a senior left-handed pitcher, was a 1stTeam NCAA and NCBWA and 2nd Team ABCA All-East Region award winner. The CACC Pitcher of the Year went 8-3 with a 1.54 earned run average. He led the CACC in strikeouts (98), while opponents hit just .188 off of him. He also garnered NCBWA 3rd Team All-American honors last season, becoming the first Wildcat to make All-American in two different seasons.
Their efforts helped lead Wilmington to a 37-12 overall record, including a 15-5 mark in the CACC. The 'Cats won the CACC Championship, and earned a berth to the NCAA East Regional Tournament.
