LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - - The bats came around for the Wilmington University baseball team on Sunday, sweeping a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader from Lincoln University, 19-10 and 9-2, at the LU Baseball Complex.
GAME 1:
The Wildcats tied their season high with 23 hits in game one, hitting three homers, two triples, and seven doubles. They scored at least one run in all but two innings.
For the third time this season, Brandon Grygo led off the game with a homer, giving the Wildcats an early lead. He then tripled to right with two outs in the second, giving the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.
The Wildcats added three runs in the third, getting RBI from Chase Fleming, an RBI double from Cam Trego, and an RBI from Garrett Quinn. But the Lions clawed back, hitting a two-run double and a three-run homer in the bottom of the third to tie the game, 6-6.
Wilmington put up five runs in the top of the fourth, taking the lead for good. Tyler Pirrung started the inning with a double and then scored on a wild pitch. Cam Trego tripled in a run and then trotted home on an error to make it 9-6. Nick Classie added an RBI single and the Brand Grygo added his third hit with an RBI single to make it 11-6.
Lincoln scored three straight to close to within 11-9 heading to the seventh. A six-run top of the ninth for the Wildcats put the game away. Chase Fleming hit a two-run homer and then Shawn Edevane hit a two-run homer three batters later. Garrett Quinn added an RBI double, and the Josearmando Diaz capped the scoring with another RBI single.
Garrett Quinn led the team with four hits while Chase Fleming with 2-for-5 with five RBI. Brandon Grygo was a double shy of the cycle, going 3-fr-6 with three RBI while Shawn Edevane added three RBI as well. Scott Borgmann struck out seven in 3.1 innings of relief to pick up the win.
GAME 2:
The Wildcats scored in each of their final four at bats, taking as large as a 7-0 lead in the sixth inning.
Garrett Quinn pitched the opening three innings for the Wildcats, striking out five while only allowing a hit and a walk.
Tyler Pirrung led off the fourth with a walk and then Kory Pritchard opened the scoring with an RBI single. Cam Trego then hit a two-run homer before Shawn Edevane made it back-to-back for the Wildcats for the 4-0 lead.
Kory Pritchard hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth and then Brand Grygo and Tristan Schoendienst had RBI in the sixth to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead.
Lincoln scored two in the bottom of the sixth but then the Wildcats answered with two more in the top of the seventh. AJ Tropiano hit an RBI groundout and Justin Hernandez doubled to cap the scoring, 9-2.
Kory Pritchard went 2-for-2 with two RBI while Justin Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a double. Cam Trego brought in two RBI as well.
