NEW CASTLE, Del. - - Tyler Pirrung hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to cap a four-game Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference sweep for the Wilmington University baseball team, defeating Lincoln (Pa.), 14-0 and 4-3, on Monday at Wilson Field.
GAME 1:
The Wildcats scored in five of their six at bats, ending the game early with an eight-run sixth inning to enforce the mercy rule.
Chase Fleming got out of bases loaded jams in the first and third innings, striking out six while only allowing three hits and three walks. Steve Schenning went three scoreless innings for the win, striking out two while only allowing one hit. Xavier Cortez kept the shutout with a scoreless top of the seventh.
Brandon Grygo started the game with a double and Kory Pritchard knocked him in with an RBI single. JJ Killen's hot shot to first scored Pritchard and the Wildcats were leading 2-0 after the first inning. Tristan Schoendienst had an RBI single in the third before Grygo added a two-out RBI double in the fourth.
JJ Killen got a hold of one in the bottom of the fifth, sending a curve ball beyond the fence in left center for his first homer of the season. Schoendienst hit a two-run single in the sixth and Zach Frame added an RBI single as part of an eight-run sixth inning and the 14-0 lead.
Brandon Grygo went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three runs scored while Schoendienst went 2-for-3 with three RBI. JJ Killen finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.
GAME 2:
Lincoln's Jaden Greenidge kept the Wilmington bat's down for the majority of the game, only allowing sacrifice flies int eh fourth and fifth innings. The Lions scored three in the top of the seventh to tie it before the Wildcats answered right back in the bottom half, capped by a Tyler Pirrung walk-off single.
Tyler Reinert went five strong innings, striking out five while only allowing two hits. Brandon Grygo struck out a pair in an inning of work, but the Lions got to closer Dom Marotta.
The Wildcats didn't get a base runner until the third inning, but Xavier Cortez was left stranded at third. Pirrung singled int eh fourth to start a rally. Now on third with one out, Cam Trego hit a sacrifice fly deep to right, scoring Pirrung for the 1-0 lead.
Xavier Cortez and Justin Hernandez singled to start the fifth and then stole second and third. Kyle Lowman and Brandon Grygo then hit sacrifice flies to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.
The Lions started the seventh with a double, a walk, and a single to load the bases with no outs. An infield single scored the first run and then a fielder's choice and an overthrow on a double play attempt allowed two runs to come home and tie the game. But Dom Marotta got the final two outs, leaving a runner on third to keep the game tied.
Kyle Lowman, Brandon Grygo, and D'Angelo Ponce all walked to start the seventh inning. Tyler Pirrung then stepped in and pulled a ball inside the third base bag, easily scoring the winning run.
Tyler Pirrung went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in the game.

The Wildcats remain at home on Tuesday, as they welcome CACC North Division opponent Bloomfield to Wilson Field for another doubleheader. The first pitch against the Bears is set for 12:00 p.m.
