Baseball Scores Season-High 28 Runs in Game One of CACC Sweep of Bloomfield

NEW CASTLE, Del. - - The Wilmington University baseball team set a new season high with 28 runs in game one, going on to sweep Bloomfield, 28-5 and 15-1, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Wilson Field.

GAME 1:
Yoshi Conti went four innings while striking out five while the offense collected nine extra-base hits and a season-high 28 runs in the victory. Conit only allowed two hits and a walk in improving to 2-1 on the season.

The Wildcats scored eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings to break the game wide open. Tyler Pirrung hit a two-run homer to the opposite field in the second and then Kody Clausius and AJ Tropiano each hit three-run homers in the bottom of the fifth.

Thirteen different Wildcats recorded an RBI in the game with six different student-athletes hitting a double. Kody Clausius went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double, and five RBI off the bench while Brandon Grygo went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Tyler Pirrung went 2-for-2 with a homer, a double, and three RBI while AJ Tropiano came off the bench to go 2-for-2 with a homer and three RBI. Alex Krick and Kyle Lowman also finished with two RBI for the Wildcats.

John McCallister pitched the fifth before Shane Rosenberry tossed the final two innings to close out the contest.

GAME 2:
Liam Loging went the first four innings in the nightcap, not allowing a hit while striking out two. Steven Mann came on and finished out the game with three innings pitched, striking out six while allowing a run on three hits.

The offense struck early in game two, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first. The Wildcats sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring nine runs on four hits while scoring on three walks and a pair of wild pitches. Tyler Pirrung had two hits in the first inning, hitting an RBI single in his first appearance and then an RBI double in his second.

Justin Hernandez hit an RBI single in the second and Jordan Santiago hit an RBI single in part of a four-run third inning, giving the Wildcats a 14-0 lead. CJ Nocella collected an RBI in the fourth with a groundout, capping the scoring for the Wildcats int eh contest, 15-0.

Tyler Pirrung and Justin Hernandez each went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Jordan Santiago also had two RBI for the Wildcats. Kory Pritchard went 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored.

UP NEXT:
The Wildcats continue CACC play on Thursday, beginning their four-game set with Holy Family on the road. The doubleheader in Philadelphia is set for a 12:00 p.m. first pitch.
