NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - Following their Spring Break trips away from the cold weather, a pair of Wilmington University student-athletes have been named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Baseball's Scott Borgmann (Parkton, Md.) and women's lacrosse's Ella Royer (Sherwood Park, Alberta) paced their teams last week in different parts of the country, leading to being named on their sport's Weekly Reports.
Scott Borgmann dominated on the mound for the Wildcats against Minnesota Crookston on the team's trip to Florida. He came on in relief to get the final out of the second inning and then pitched six more shutdown innings in the 9-3 victory. He struck out 10 batters while only allowing one unearned run on three hits and one walk. At one point, he set down 11 straight batters. He earned the win to move to 2-0 on the young season.
Ella Royer led the Wildcats to a 3-0 week, playing two games in California before returning home to play on the road on Saturday. She totaled 15 goals and three assists for 18 points, adding 10 draws, three ground balls and two caused turnovers as well. In the 18-8 win over Charleston (W.Va.) in California, she scored eight goals to go with an assist for nine points. She also added five draws in the win. She then scored two goals in the 11-8 victory over hosts Dominican (Calif.), adding a caused turnover and a ground ball. She then came back home and scored five goals and two assists for seven points at Bloomsburg. She also added five draws, two ground balls, and a caused turnover in the 19-12 win.
Royer also set a milestone in the win at Bloomsburg, becoming just the sixth NCAA Division II student-athlete to ever score 300 career goals. She currently stands at 302 career goals with 74 assists for 376 career points.
Three other Wilmington student-athletes were named to their respective Honor Rolls as well. Baseball's Cam Trego hit .500 last week while men's lacrosse's Kyle Parker led the team with four goals and four assists in two games. Women's lacrosse's Ashleigh Lawry went 3-0 in goal for the Wildcats as well.
