Four Wildcats Named CACC Players of the Week on March 23

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Wilmington University spring sports teams are red hot on the field, and it shows in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Reports, with four Wildcats being named Players of the Week across three sports.

The baseball team went 4-0 in CACC play last week and was highlighted by Tyler Pirrung being named CACC Player of the Week and John Grybowski being named the CACC Rookie of the Week. The women's lacrosse team went 2-0 last week, leading to Alea Javorowsky being named the CACC Player of the Week. The men's lacrosse team went 1-1, anchored by Daniel Flynn in goal being named the CACC Goalkeeper of the Week.

Tyler Pirrung (Newark, Del.) was a scorching 12-for-14 in four games last week, collecting a 2.038 OPS. He had a double, a triple, six RBI, and six stolen bases against the Griffins and Cougars. He went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and two stolen bases against Chestnut Hill. He then batted 5-for-5 with two RBI, three stolen bases, and three runs scored in game one against Caldwell and then batted 2-for-3 with a stolen base and an RBI in game two on Saturday. He finished his week by batting 2-for-2 with two triples, a walk, and a sacrifice fly on Sunday at Caldwell, finishing of the sweep. He reached base on nine consecutive plate appearances last week, spanning three games.

John Grybowski (New Castle, Del.) did not allow a run in two appearances last week, throwing 5.2 inning while striking out eight and allowing three hits and a walk. Made a midweek appearance out of the pen against Chestnut Hill, throwing 0.2 innings with a punchout. He then started game two on Saturday, throwing 5.0 innings with seven strikeouts and just three hits. He earned the win on the mound in the 2-1 ballgame.

Alea Javorowsky (Macedon, N.Y.) paced the Wildcats to a 2-0 week, including starting CACC play with a win over Caldwell. The senior led the team with 15 points last week, scoring two goals while dishing out 13 assists. She also had six ground balls and two caused turnovers to help the Wildcats get to 8-0 on the year. She collected two goals and five assists in a 20-5 win at Frostburg State. She then passed out eight assists in a 21-3 win over Caldwell, with her final assist of the day counting as her 300th career point. She also had two caused turnovers and five ground balls on Saturday.

Daniel Flynn (New York, N.Y.) anchored the men's lacrosse defense that only allowed 15 goals in two games last week. Flynn recorded nine saves while only allowing seven goals in a 7-6 loss to Frostburg State. He then made six saves in an 11-8 victory against Chestnut Hill on Saturday. Flynn recorded a .500 save percentage for the week, facing 59 total shots.

Five Wildcats were also placed on their sport's respective Weekly Honor Rolls, led by women's lacrosse with two. Ella Royer and Allison Schiavone were named to the women's lacrosse Weekly Honor Roll, as was softball's Maddie Vollmar. Baseball placed Xavier Cortez on the Weekly Honor Roll, while men's lacrosse freshman Ian Betts also earned a spot on the Report.
