ASTON, Pa. - - The bats came alive for the Wilmington University baseball team on Wednesday, collecting double-digit hits in each game of a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference sweep of Holy Family, 11-1 (7) and 5-1, at the Maplezone Sports Institute.
The Wildcats (17-8, 9-2 CACC) pounded out 14 hits in the opener, scoring six runs in the top of the seventh to enact the mercy rule. They then collected 10 hits in the nightcap, jumping out in front with four runs in their first two at-bats.
GAME 1:
After three scoreless innings, the Wildcats finally broke through in the top of the fourth. The Wildcats placed runners on the corners with one out and Brett Walmsley grounded out to bring in the first run. Zach Frame and Brian Klumpp then singled in runs, giving the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.
The Tigers hit three singles to load the bases with no outs in the fifth. They scored a run on a ground out and then reloaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. Starter Chase Fleming induced a ground ball to third, cutting down a runner at the plate. Scott Borgmann then came on and got out of the jam with a strikeout, only allowing the one run.
The first three hitters than reached to start the sixth, getting an RBI double from MJ Phillips and an RBI single from Brett Walmsley for the 5-1 lead. The Wildcats then broke it open in the seventh.
Tyler Pirrung started the scoring with an RBI double, followed by a Cam Trego RBI single, a Brett Walmsley double, a two-run double from Frame, and a final run as Frame stole third and the ball ended up in left field. Scott Borgmann then struck out a pair and induced a ground ball in the bottom of the seventh to end the game, 11-1.
Brett Walmsley and Zach Frame led with two hits and three RBI each while Cam Trego, MJ Phillips, Klumpp, and Garrett Quinn all had two hits each. Fleming went 4.2 innings with two strikeouts and four hits, improving to 3-1. Scott Borgmann struck out three in 2.1 innings, earning his third save of the season.
GAME 2:
The bats rolled over into the nightcap, as the Wildcats put three runs on the board I the top of the first and another in the top of the second.
With Tyler Pirrung on second, Chase Fleming singled to bring him home for the game's first run. Now with two outs, Justin Hernandez singled to center, scoring Fleming and Ryan Kiendle for the 3-0 lead.
Garrett Quinn doubled in the top of the second and eventually scored on a wild pitch, making it a 4-0 game.
Game two starter Dylan Potero went five innings, only allowing two hits. The Tigers got on the board with an RBI ground out in the sixth, but Chase Fleming got it right back with an RBI single in the top of the seventh. Garrett Quinn then closed out the sweep with a scoreless seventh frame.
Chase Fleming and Justin Hernandez led with two RBI each while Brandon Grygo, Fleming, and Kiendle all had two hits each. Dylan Potero earned his first collegiate win on the mound.

The Wildcats remain on the road and in the CACC with their next contests, traveling to reigning East Region Champion Felician on Saturday. The first pitch of the doubleheader ris set for 12:00 p.m. in Rutherford, New Jersey.
