12-Run Sixth Inning Lifts Baseball to Season Sweep of Lincoln, 21-2

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. - - A 12-run sixth inning broke open a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest as the Wilmington University baseball team went on to sweep the season series over Lincoln with a 21-2 victory on Tuesday afternoon.

The Wildcats are now 26-12 overall and 18-6 in CACC play, a game behind Goldey-Beacom in second place in the conference standings. They are two games north of Jefferson, however.

The game was tied, 2-2, through four innings of play. Zach Frame tripled in a run in the top of the sixth to break the tie before another run came home on a double play for the 4-2 lead.

The Wildcats then broke out for nine hits in the top of the sixth inning, starting with back-to-back RBI doubles form Brett Walmsley and Zach Frame. Brayden Hostetter hit an RBI single and then Dylan Jackson launched a two-run homer to give the Wildcats a 9-2 lead.

Justin Hernandez restarted the inning with a single before D'Angelo Ponce hit another double in the inning. Tyler Pirrung hit a sacrifice fly and then Alex Wootton set flight to a ball for another two-run homer in the inning, extending the lead out to 13-2.

Back-to-back walks restarted the inning for the Wildcats, bringing Dylan Jackson back up to the plate. Jackson deposited his second homer of the inning, this one a three-run jack, to make it 16-2 after the 6th inning.

The runs continued in the top of the seventh inning, as Joey Russo hit his first homer of the season for the 18-2 lead. Kyle Lowman doubled in a run while Brian Klumpp hit an RBI single and Stephen Katch completed the scoring with a sacrifice fly.

Garrett Quinn started and went the first three innings for the Wildcats, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out four batters. Scott Borgmann came on and pitched three innings of relief, striking out four while only allowing three hits, earning the win to improve to 4-0 on the year. Daviel Fernandez pitched a scoreless seventh inning to close out the victory.

Zach Frame went 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, and two RBI, while Dylan Jackson went 2-for-3 off the bench with the two homers and five RBI.

The Wildcats step outside of the CACC for their next contest, welcoming Bloomsburg to Wilson Field on Wednesday afternoon. The first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
