Four Wildcats Named CACC Players of the Week as Postseason Nears

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Wilmington University spring sport teams are in the thick of postseason pushes and are continuing to excel, as four student-athletes have been named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday and Tuesday.

Baseball's Dylan Potero (Woolwich, N.J.) was named the CACC Pitcher and Rookie of the Week for his effort on the mound last week. Men's lacrosse's Daniel Flynn (New York, N.Y.) had a season high in saves, being named the CACC Goalkeeper of the Week. Women's lacrosse's Leah Rycroft (Sherwood Park, Alberta) did it all last week, but anchored the defensive side of the ball to be named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week. Julian Jones (Elkton, Md.) continues to dominate on the track, taking home another CACC Track Athlete of the Week.

Dylan Potero threw a seven-inning complete game shutout on Saturday, leading the Wildcats to a 4-0 win over Post at home. He struck out 11 batters while only allowing three hits and a walk, helping the Wildcats to the doubleheader split. The freshman is now 3-0 on the year with a 2.86 ERA and 32 punchouts.

Daniel Flynn anchored the defense as the Wildcats defeated Dominican, 19-8, to secure the No. 1 seed in the upcoming CACC Tournament for the third year in a row. Flynn made a season high 16 saves in the win, going for a .667 save percentage. He leads the CACC with a 7.39 goals against average and is fifth overall with a .547 save percentage.

Leah Rycroft stuffed the stat sheet for the Wildcats, helping the team to a 2-0 week. She scored seven goals with an assist for eight points while adding a team high five caused turnovers and 10 draws. She had three caused turnovers, a draw, and two ground balls in a win over Chestnut Hill, adding a goal. She then came out and had nine draws with two caused turnovers and two ground balls in a win over Post, scoring six goals with an assist as well.

For the third week in a row, Julian Jones has been named the CACC Track Athlete of the Week, setting another Wilmington record while competing at the UD Invite. Jones didn't win the 1500-meter, but still set a school record after finishing in second place. He would have also set a meet record, but it was Delaware State's Marian Drazan who beat his own meet record with a better time this year. Julian Jones' WilmU record time came at 3:50.68, the first Wildcat to ever break the four-minute mark in the event.

Men's lacrosse's Andrew Dzubak, women's lacrosse's Ella Royer, and track and field's Christian Dollard and Sytieia Brown were all named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll this week as well.
