NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The heat is being turned up on the diamond and there wasn't much hotter than Wilmington University baseball's Brett Walmsley last week, being named a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Co-Player of the Week on Monday.
Brett Walmsley (Newark, Del.) led the Wildcats to a 4-0 record last week, earning CACC Co-Player of the Week with Post's Andrew Hartman.
Walmsley batted 9-for-10 in four games last week, hitting two doubles, two homers, seven RBI, and seven runs scored. He had a slash line of .900/.929/1.700 for a 2.629 OPS.
His week started by going 3-for-4 with a double and a walk at Lincoln, scoring three runs while knocking one in. He then went 1-for-1 in a nonconference game against Bloomsburg. In a doubleheader against Dominican, the junior catcher went 5-for-5 with six RBI. He batted 4-for-4 with a walk, hitting a double, a homer, and knocking in four in game one. He then went 1-for-1 with two walks, a homer, and two RBI in game two against the Chargers.
He is now leading the Wildcats with a .422 batting average, going for a 1.216 OPS on the season. He has six doubles and six homers on the year, bringing in 29 RBI.
Teammate Dylan Potero was named to the CACC Weekly Honor roll after throwing 6.0 scoreless innings in two appearances last week, striking out eight. He started and got the win in five innings against Dominican, striking out six.
Softball's Maddie Vollmar was named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll, as was women's lacrosse's Alea Javorowsky, and track and field's Sytieia Brown.
