Three Wildcats Earn Major Awards as Eight Take Home All-CACC Baseball Honors

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - The Wilmington University baseball team earned three Major Awards and eight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference postseason accolades as the conference office announced its All-CACC awards on Wednesday.

Tyler Pirrung becomes the sixth Wildcat in program history to be named the CACC Player of the Year, and the first since 2019. Scott Borgmann becomes the seventh pitcher, eighth overall, CACC Pitcher of the Year. Head coach Brian August takes home his fourth Athletic Solutions CACC Coach of the Year award as well.

Joining Pirrung and Borgmann on the All-CACC First Team is catcher Brett Walmsley, outfielder Cam Trego, starting pitcher Dylan Potero, and utility-pitcher Chase Fleming. Earning an All-CACC Second Team nod for the Wildcats as well is outfielder Zach Frame and starting pitcher Xavier Cortez.

Scott Borgmann (Parkton, Md.) is the first CACC Pitcher of the Year since Matt Warrington in 2023, and the third since play resumed following the COVID-19 shutdown season. He was elected First Team All-CACC as a relief pitcher. In 16 appearances, all out of the bullpen, he is 6-0 with five saves, a 1.43 earned run average, and a .171 opponent batting average. In 50 1/3 innings, he has allowed 31 hits and 17 walks. His 70 strikeouts are third in the conference. He's two outs shy of qualifying to appear on CACC and NCAA leaderboards, but would be seventh in all NCAA DII in striking out 12.52 batters per nine innings pitched.

He's second on the team with six homers and fourth with 34 RBI. He's turned it on in the second half of the year, batting .518 (29-for-56) since the start of April, hitting five homers with 22 RBI, and 24 runs scored.

He has 46 strikeouts in 45.1 innings, compiling a 2.78 ERA.

Dual threat Chase Fleming (Bear, Del.) was voted as the First Team utility-pitcher for his role on the mound and at first base. The left is 6-1 in 11 appearances (10 starts) with a 3.06 ERA. He's fifth in the CACC with 60 strikeouts on the season, only walking 18 batters. He's three outs from qualifying on the CACC and NCAA leaderboards and would currently be second behind Borgmann in ERA in the CACC. At the plate, he's 10th in the CACC with a .366 batting average and 14th overall with 43 RBI. Of his 48 hits this year, he has eight doubles, a triple, and four homers while stealing 14 bases.

Outfielder Zach Frame (Wilmington, Del.) was voted a Second Team All-CACC performer with a slash line of .359/.450/.563 for a 1.013 OPS. His batting average is 14th in the CACC while his 15 doubles are tied for sixth most and his four triples are tied for fifth most in the conference. Head coach Brian August guided the Wildcats (36-15, 25-8 CACC) to the CACC regular-season title, the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, and a sweep of their first-round playoff series to advance to this weekend's four-team double-elimination final. Wilmington is the No. 4 team in the most recent NCAA Division II Committee East Region ranking. August, who has led the Wildcats since 2005, is the CACC Coach of the Year for the fourth time (2010, 2015, 2022).

Caldwell's Justin Levine was voted the CACC Rookie of the Year while Lincoln was voted the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award.
