NEWARK, Del. - - The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Champion Wilmington University baseball team learned its fate on Sunday night as the NCAA announced the six teams competing in the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament next week.
The Wildcats will face a familiar foe as the No. 4 seed. They will take on CACC and First State rival Goldey-Beacom, who was named the No. 5 seed. They will travel to No. 1 and host Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
The Wildcats (39-15) defeated Goldey-Beacom twice over the weekend in the CACC Tournament, with the Wildcats winning 10-8 and 12-3, the latter being the CACC Championship game on Saturday morning.
The first round matchup will be the sixth matchup between the Lightning and Wildcats since April 22. The Wildcats are 4-1 against the Lightning this season.
This is the 12th Regional appearance for the Wildcats after capturing their 11th CACC Tournament Championship on Saturday. They won the 2015 NCAA Division II East Region Championship to advance to the Division II World Series. They are looking for their first Super Regional appearance since the NCAA went to a two-site format in 2019.
Bentley won the NE10 Tournament Championship for the first time in program history and will the three-team bracket later this week.
