Five Baseball Standouts Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

NEWARK, Del. - - The College Sports Communicators announced its 2026 Academic All-District Baseball Team and five Wilmington University student-athletes were recognized as some of the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

Representing the Wilmington University baseball team on the CSC Academic All-District Team were seniors Scott Borgmann and Tyler Pirrung, and juniors Xavier Cortez, Chase Fleming, and Brett Walmsley. The five Wildcats represent the most among Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference programs and are among 40 total CACC student-athletes.

To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District nomination, the student-athlete must excel in both the field of play and the classroom. Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, AND compete in 90 percent of the institution's games or start in at least 66 percent of the games, along with several other criteria. For pitchers, a student-athlete must have made at least 17 appearances OR pitched 35 innings. 

Scott Borgmann (Parkton, Md.) was a consensus All-American this season for the Wildcats, finishing 7-1 with seven saves this year, collecting a 1.71 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP. He was named the D2CCA East Region and the CACC Pitcher of the Year. He is carrying a 3.81 graduate grade point average, going for his MSM in sports management.

Tyler Pirrung (Newark, Del.) was the CACC Player of the Year and earned an Honorable Mention All-American nod as well. He batted .387 with 74 hits this year, going for 18 doubles, three triples, and five homers, knocking in 54 runners while scoring 63 more. He set an NCAA program record with 41 stolen bases this year. He graduated with a 3.80 cumulative grade point average this spring, earning his degree in business management.

Xavier Cortex (Vineland, N.J.) started opening game for the Wildcats, leading the team with 71 innings. In 13 appearances, he finished 7-2 with one complete game, striking out 71 batters. He collected a 4.94 ERA in his junior season. He is carrying a 3.82 cumulative GPA while studying for his degree in business management.

Chase Fleming (Bear, Del.) is another All-American for the Wildcats, touted as one of the best two-way players in NCAA Division II. On the mound, he went 7-1 with a 3.11 ERA in 13 appearances, striking out 81 with only 21 walks. At the plate, he batted .376 with 50 RBI and 39 runs scored. He had 10 doubles, two triples, and four RBI in part of his 56 hits. He has a 3.59 cumulative GPA while studying for his degree in education.

Brett Walmsley (Newark, Del.) was an All-Region catcher in his first season with the Wildcats. He came on strong in the second half of the year, leading the team with a .418 batting average, hitting 10 doubles, two triples, and eight homers. He knocked in 45 RBI while scoring 41 more runs. He is carrying a 3.82 cumulative GPA while going for his business analytics degree.

The 2026 CSC Academic All-America Team will be announced on Tuesday, June 23.
