WATERTOWN, Conn. - - The Wilmington University golf team leads the field of 12 teams following the first round of the Post Eagles Invite on Monday afternoon at the Watertown Golf Club.
The Wildcats shot a 297 (+13) in the first round on Monday, narrowly outshooting St. Thomas Aquinas by a stroke to hold the lead. Le Moyne is only two strokes off the lead to round out the top three teams.
The four scoring Wildcats are all in the top ten on the leaderboard, with three of them all shooting a 74 (+3) to sit in a tie for fourth. The final scorer for the team was one stroke off the trio, shooting a 75 (+4) to sit in a tie for ninth.
Junior transfer Zach Moore tied for the lead league with 13 pars on Monday, shooting a 74 (+3) for the Wildcats. Sam Clark finished one-under par on the courses three par-fives while also collecting 11 pars on Monday, tying teammate Moore with another 74 (+3). Joey Russo shot an even par on the course's four par-threes, adding 11 pars to go with two birdies for the team's final 74 (+3).
Senior Miguel Siercke rounded out the Wildcats scorecard on Monday, shooting a 75 with three birdies in the first round. Freshman Matthew Kettleson rounded out the Wildcats' team in the first round with a 79 (+8), despite collecting a team high four birdies on the round.
The Wildcats also had four student-athletes playing as individuals on Monday, led by senior Freddy Braun's 75 (+4). Braun was one of three players in the field to finish at one-under par on the course's four par-threes, adding three birdies, and 10 pars. Freshman Braden McKay sits in a tie for 18th overall with a 77 (+6) on Monday, collecting 12 pars in the round. McKay is tied with junior Troy Miller in 18th place as Miller also shot a 77 (+6) for the round.
Freshman Jack Dixon rounded the Wildcats out on the course, shooting an 81 (+10) to finish in a tie for 47th after the first round. Dixon finished even par on the course's three par-fives.
The Wildcats will conclude pay at the Post Eagles Invitational on Tuesday with a shotgun start beginning at 9:30 a.m.
