MARBLE FALLS, Texas - - The Wilmington University golf team finished its 2016 fall season on Tuesday with the third round of the GolfWeek Division II Fall Invitational, hosted on the Horseshoe Bay Resort outside of Austin, Texas.
The Wildcats finished 14th overall in a field of 18 teams, 11 of which were nationally ranked. The Wildcats shot a 318-309 on Monday before closing out the tournament with a 314 on Tuesday, totaling a 941 (+77) for the tournament.
Nationally No. 2 ranked West Florida won the tournament with an 876 (+12), shooting a 285-293-298. Nationally No. 1 Lynn finished second with an 881 (+17) while No. 12 Nova Southeastern and unranked Dallas Baptist rounded out the top three, tying in the third spot with an 886 (+22).
Junior Zac Moore was the Wildcats top finisher, shooting a team best 70 in the second round on Monday. In the three-round tournament he shot an 85-70-74 for a 229 (13), finishing in a tie for 33rd overall. He finished tied for 14th in the tournament with 10 birdies, and tied for ninth on the par three holes, averaging 3.17 (+2) per hole for the tournament.
Senior Miguel Siercke started hot with a 71 in the first round, but finished the tournament with a 71-70-82 for a 233 (+17) total. He finished in a tie for 40th overall on the leaderboard but also finished tied for seventh overall with 34 pars.
Senior Freddy Braun finished in a tie for 49th overall, shooting a 79-76-81 for a two-day score of 236 (+20). Braun finished with 33 pars for the tournament, tied for 11th most in the field.
Senior Sam Clark tied for 71st overall, shooting an 83-83-77 for a 243 (+27) while junior Troy Miller rounded out the tournament with an 88th place finish, shooting a 91-87-88 for a 266 (+50) overall.
The Wildcats will make another run at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship in the spring and advance into the NCAA Super Regionals and National Tournament.
