CONCORD, N.H. - - The Wilmington University golf team remained red hot on the course this past weekend, winning its second straight tournament with rounds of 288 and 283 for a 571 (-5) at the Penmen Spring Invitational at the Beaver Meadow Golf Course.
The Wildcats were the only team to finish under par for the tournament, beating Southern New Hampshire and Assumption by six strokes. It is the third tournament victory for the Wildcats this season, opening the year with a first-place finish at the Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational and then winning the Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational early this month as well. They also finished second at the Vulcan Fire Classic to end March.
Freshman Noah Wallace (on left) tied atop the leaderboard for his first collegiate victory. He shot identical rounds of 69 for a 138 (-6), coming from second place after the first round. He tied Franklin Pierce's Seth Saffell who led after a first round 66 (-6) but shot a 72 (E) in the second round.
Wallace had four birdies and one bogey in each round, birdieing the par five 16th in each round. He posted 26 pars in the two rounds.
Coming off a tournament victory at West Chester, Pablo Quintero finished third overall on Saturday, shooting rounds of 70 (-2) and 69 (-3) for a 139 (-5). He had four birdies and two bogeys in each round, birdieing the par four fifth, the par three 17th, and par four 18th in each round. He had 24 pars in the two rounds.
Sacha Brown moved up six spots in the second round, finishing in a tie for 14th overall with rounds of 75 (+3) and 71 (-1) for a 146 (+2). His tournament started off with a birdie on the par four first hole on Friday, but he finished the round with 13 pars and four bogeys for a 75 (+3). He came back and got to three-under par through 12 holes on Saturday, finishing with a 71 (-1).
Blake Ramirez closed out the scoring on Saturday for the Wildcats with a 74 (+2), moving up four spots to finish in 31st overall. He shot rounds of 78 (+6) and 74 (+2) for a 152 (+8). He birdied the par four 18th in the first round and then had a birdie on the par three sixth on Saturday. He limited his mistakes to just three bogeys on Saturday, finishing with 14 pars in the second round.
Josh Freeman scored for the Wildcats on Friday with a 74 (+2) before finishing with a 77 (+5) on Saturday for a 151 (+7) and in 26th place. He had three birdies and 11 pars on Friday and also had three birdies and 10 pars on Saturday but was hurt with three doubles in Saturday's round.
The Wildcats get right back to action on Monday, getting a look at the Super Regional course in the Atlantic/East Preview hosted by Gannon University in Fairview, Pennsylvania.
