Wildcats Shoot a 314 in First Round of Atlantic/East Super Regional

FAIRVIEW, Pa. - - The Wilmington University golf team shot a 314 in the first round of the NCAA Atlantic/East Super Regional on Thursday, sitting in 12th place with two rounds to play at the Whispering Woods Golf Course.

Out of 20 teams, the Wildcats sit in 12th overall, two strokes behind Indiana (Pa.) and only four strokes out of ninth place overall. They are the second team from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, trailing Felician who posted a 311 (+23) and is in 10th place.

Noah Waellace led the Wildcats in his first Super Regional Tournament with a 75 (+3). After a slow start by being four-over through four, he posted birdies on the fifth and seventh hole. Another triple through saw his front nine balloon to a 41 (+5). He settled in after the turn though, birdieing the par three 14th and the par four 17th to get back to three-over. He had seven pars and two birdies on the back nine. He is in a tie for 19th overall.

Pablo Quintero is in 46th after the first round, shooting a 78 (+6). He started with three straight pars, the only Wildcat to do so. He made the turn with a 39 (+3), hitting two doubles and a birdie on the par fourth fifth. Three bogeys and six pars embodied his back nine to close out his 78 (+6).

Blake Ramirez had the best front nine of the Wildcats and is currently in 64th overall with a first round 80 (+8). He sank a birdie on the par four eighth to get back down to two-over par, making the turn with a 38 (+2). But he came in with a 42 (+6) on the back nine to settle for his 80 (+8).

Sacha Brown had a slow start to his round, making the turn with a 43 (+7), but then had the second best back nine on the team. He had a birdie on the par three 11th as he collected five pars, a birdie and three bogeys to come in with a 38 (+2). He is in 71st overall with an 81 (+9).

Josh Freeman is in 89th place after the first round, shooting an 85 (+13). His round finished with a birdie on the par four 18th but he only had six pars and a birdie in the opening round.

Davis & Elkins leads the tournament with a 294 (+6) while California (Pa.) and NO. 29 Gannon are in second with a 299 (+11). The top three teams after the third round will advance to the NCAA National Tournament.

Davis & Elkins' Aidan Talent leads the tournament with a 68 (-4), leading three student-athletes that went under par. St. Thomas Aquinas' Nolan Skaggs shot a 70 (-2), while Bluefield State's Eman Lim went for a 71 (-1).

The Wildcats take to the course first on Friday in the second round, beginning to tee off starting at 9:10 a.m.
