CHARLESTON, W.Va. - - After two rounds at the UC Invitational, the Wilmington University golf team is in second place with rounds of 287-286 for a 573 (+13) on Monday at the Berry Hills Country Club, hosted by the University of Charleston.
The Wildcats opened the season with a pair of solid rounds, going 7-over and 6-over in their first two rounds of the year. They are in second place out of 20 teams, trailing only Gannon who posted rounds of 280-282 for a 562 (+2).
Sophomore Noah Wallace picked up where he left off last year, sitting in tied for third overall after rounds of 70-66 for a 136 (-4). He posted four birdies in the first round, but got rid of the bogeys and negative holes in the second round. He had two birdies and an eagle in the second round, with the rest of the holes going as pars. He eagled the par five 13th to get to three-under par.
Josh Freeman got off to a strong start in his second season, shooting rounds of 70 and 72 for a 142 (+2), sitting in a tie for 13th overall. He collected three birdies in his first six holes in the morning, collecting 12 pars to finish with a 70, even par. He then had two birdies and four bogeys in the second round for his 72 (+2).
Freshman Sebastian Ramos improved his second round by five strokes, moving up to a tie for 34th overall with rounds of 76-71 for a 147 (+7). He limited the bogeys in the second round, going for two birdies and three bogeys for a 71 (+1).
Sophomore Will Finnerty shot rounds of 71 and 77 in his first action as a Wildcat. He had three birdies in the first round before adding two more in the second round.
Freshman Keegan Snyder rounded out the Wildcats' scoring on Monday, completing his first two collegiate rounds. He shots rounds of 78 and 77 for a 155 (+15), sitting in 75th overall. He had three birdies in his first round and two quick birdies in the second round to get as low as two-under par.
Playing as an independent, redshirt freshman James DeRocini saw his first collegiate action on Monday as well, shooting rounds of 74 and 75 for a 149 (+9). He posted three birdies in the first round and four more in the second.
Point Park's Milo Thim leads the tournament with identical rounds of 67-67 for a 134 (-6). Gannon's Rasmus Seppanen is in second place with rounds of 67-68 for a 135 (-5).
The Wildcats and the rest of the field will start the third and final round on Tuesday with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start.
