CHARLESTON, W. Va. - - The Wilmington University golf team shot a day's best 281 (+1) to close out the 2025-26 season opening tournament, finishing in second place out of 20 teams at the UC Invitational on Tuesday at the Berry Hills Country Club.
The Wildcats finished the tournament with a score of 854 (+14), shooting rounds of 287-286-281 to only trail tournament winner Gannon by five strokes. The team score of 281 was the lowest in the final round on Tuesday.
Freshman Sebastian Ramos led the Wildcats with a 67 (-3) on Tuesday, but it was sophomore Noah Wallace that led the team in the three rounds, finishing second overall. Wallace shot rounds of 70-66-70 for a 206 (-4), one stroke off the leader. He birdied the par three third to get back to even and then hit a birdie putt on the par five ninth to get to one-under. The back nine featured eight straight pars until a bogey on 18 completed his 70 (E).
Sophomore Josh Freeman finished 13th overall with a 71 (+1) on Tuesday, finishing his tournament with a 213 (+3). He had rounds of 70-72-71 for his 213. On Tuesday, he used an eagle on the par five 5th to get back to even par. He then birdied the eighth and 12th holes, and then used another birdie on the par three 18th to finish his round with a 71 (+1).
Sebastian Ramos used a 67 (-3) on Tuesday to jump up 19 spots into 14th place overall. His first collegiate tournament finished with rounds of 76-71-67 for a 214 (+4). After three consecutive bogies put him at two-over, Ramos went for five birdies and seven pars to close out his round. He birdied the 15th, 16th, and 18th holes to get to three-under.
Freshman Keegan Snyder rounded out the Wildcat scoring on Tuesday, posting a 73 (+3). He moved up 17 spots on Tuesday, finishing in a tie for 57th overall with rounds of 78-77-73 for a 228 (18). He birdied the 13th and 17th holes on Tuesday.
Will Finnerty closed ot his first tournament as a Wildcat in a tie for 49th overall, shooting a 78 (+8) on Tuesday. He posted rounds of 71-77-78 for a 226 (+16). He posted birdies on the fourth, 13th, and first holes after starting on hole three.
Playing as an individual, James DeRocini jumped out four spots on Tuesday into a tie for 42nd overall with a 75 (+5). He had rounds of 74-75-75 for a 224 (+14). He birdied the par four second on Tuesday, finishing with 11 pars.
Gannon won the tournament with scores of 280-282-287 for a 849 (+9), five strokes ahead of the Wildcats. Point Park's Milo Thim held off Noah Wallace for individual medalist honors with rounds of 67-67-71 for a 205 (-5).
The Wildcats have off on Wednesday but then play a one-round CACC Tournament Preview at White Clay Creek Country Club on Thursday.
