WILMINGTON, Del. - - Sebastian Ramos continued his strong start to his collegiate career on Thursday, winning the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Preview Tournament, leading the Wilmington University golf team to a 16-stroke victory at White Clay Creek Country Club.
In the one-round tournament on the site of the upcoming CACC Championship, the Wildcats posted a 295 (+7) to beat the field of six other teams by 16 strokes. Defending CACC Champions and host Goldey-Beacom, as well as Felician finished in a tie for second place with a 311 (+23).
Freshman Sebastian Ramos has now improved in each of his four rounds to start his collegiate career, shooting a 70 (-2) to hold off a hard-charging Daniel Martensson of Felician and teammate Noah Wallace. Ramos had birdies on holes three, five, and 10, but came back to one-under par with a bogey on the par five 15th. But the rookie responded well, immediately birdieing the par four 16th to get back to two-under par. He closed his round with two pars to settle at 70 (-2).
Felician's Daniel Martensson bogeyed the par three 13th to get to two-over, but then birdied three of his final five holes to close the gap and finish in second with a 71 (-1).
Sophomore Noah Wallace made a push at the end of his round as well after bogeying the par three 13th to get to three-over par. He then birdied the par five 15th and the par four 18th, closing his round with a 73 (+1) and finishing in third place.
Sophomore Josh Freeman started hot on Thursday, birdieing the first two holes of the day. He then birdied the par five eighth hole to make the turn at even par. A birdie on the par five 15th brought him back to two-over par and he finished with a 75 (+3) to finish in a tie for 5th place.
Sophomore transfer Will Finnerty rounded out the team scoring for the Wildcats, finishing in 11th overall with a 77 (+5). He had birdies on holes eight, 12, and 14, getting back to two-over par.
Freshman Keegan Snyder rounded out the team on the course and unfortunately, started slow on Thursday. He was five-over after five, but then settled in and had seven straight pars. He birdied the par three 13th to get back to four-over par, and finished with a 78 (+6) and in a tie for 12th place.
Playing as individuals, James DeRocini finished in a tie for 20th with a 80 (+8) and James Watterton made his collegiate debut with an 84 (+12), coming in a tie for 33rd overall.
Thursday was a preview for the CACC Championship which starts on Sunday, October 5. The Wildcats have two more tournaments prior to the Championships though, starting on Monday at The Griffin Invitational in Petersburg, Virginia, hosted by Saint Leo.
