ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - - In their final preparation prior to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship, the Wilmington University golf team shot three rounds under 300 at the 15th Annual Jay Jennison Cup hosted by Flagler College at the World Golf Village.
Led by sophomore Noah Wallace's third place finish, the team shot rounds of 292-294-294 for an 880 (+16) to finish 16th overall. Wallace shot rounds of 70-72-68 for a 210 (-6) on the par 72 course.
Rollins won the tournament by three strokes, finishing with a team score of 848 (-16) while host Flagler finished second overall with an 851 (-13). Nova Southeastern's Ivan Ponsdomenech earned medalist honors after coming from behind with a 66 (-6) in the third round to post a 208 (-8).
Noah Wallace started on the 12th hole each round. He posted four birdies and two bogeys in the first round for a 70 (-2) and then had two birdies, two bogeys, and 14 pars for a 72 (E) on Tuesday morning. Tuesday afternoon started with three birdies in his first three holes and then got to four-under after another birdie on the par four first hole. Back-to-back birdies brought him to five under for the round and then he went double, birdie, bogey, birdie to get to four under par. His 14 birdies led the tournament among the 96 participants.
Will Finnerty was the second Wildcat on the leaderboard, finishing in 58th overall with rounds of 74-72-76 for a 222 (+6). He birdied the par five ninth to get back to two-over par in the first round, closing out with par to finish with a 74 (+2). He then moved up to 30th overall on Tuesday morning with a 72, collected three birdies and three bogeys. In the afternoon, he started with a birdie on the par five 14th. He got back to two-over par with a birdie on the par five 4th, but a double on six put him at four-over as he finished with seven straight pars to close out the tournament.
Sebastian Ramos placed 72nd overall for the tournament, shooting rounds of 76-74-75 for a 225 (+9). Ramos had two birdies in each of the first two rounds and then started the third round with a birdie on 13. A birdie on the par five ninth brought him back down to three-over, as he closed out with three pars. He had four birdies in the third round.
Josh Freeman placed 76th overall, shooting rounds of 72-76-79 for a 227 (+11). He posted five birdies in the first round on Monday, including a par on the par 5 ninth to get to one-under par before finishing with an even par 72. He had four more birdies in the second round and two more birdies in the third round.
Keegan Snyder rounded out the Wildcats at the World Golf Village, finishing in 91st overall, moving up three spots with a third round 75 (+3). On Monday, he had two birdies followed by one birdie in the second round. In the second round on Tuesday, he had two birdies and 11 pars to shoot a 75 (+3), moving up five spots.
The CACC Championship has moved to a three-day, three-round style tournament this fall. The first round of the Championship is set for Sunday, October 5, and will be played locally at White Clay Creek Country Club for the second year in a row. This year, the tournament will be hosted by Goldey-Beacom and the CACC. A champion will be crowned on Tuesday, October 7, following the third round.
