Wildcats Grab Stranglehold of CACC with 12-10 Victory Over Chestnut Hill

LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. - - The Wilmington University men's lacrosse team grabbed a stranglehold of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a 12-10 victory over Chestnut Hill on Wednesday night on Victory Hill.

Wednesday was a battle of two of the top teams in the CACC and the Wildcats (8-3, 6-0 CACC) now stand alone atop the standings. The Wildcats have two games left in the regular season.

After the Griffins opened the scoring with a goal with 11:35 left in the first, the Wildcats went on a 3-0 run to take the lead. Joseh Lovely put the Wildcats on the board and then Carter Earl and Andrew Dzubak scoring to give the Wildcats a 3-1 lead with 4:17 to play. Toby Templeton made it 4-2 but then the Griffins scored with seven seconds left to make it a 4-3 game.

The Griffins tied the game at 4-4 and 5-5 early in the second quarter, but then Andrew Dzubak scored three goals in 1:26 of game action, giving the Wildcats an 8-5 lead at the half.

Kyle Parker made it four in a row with a goal to start the third quarter, pushing the Wildcats lead out to 9-5. Chestnut hill scored back-to-back goals but then Josh Weston got on the board and give the Wildcats a 10-7 lead after three quarters.

Andrew Dzubak gave the Wildcats some breathing room to start the fourth, scoring back-to-back goals to make it a 12-7 game with 13:00 left in regulation. Chestnut Hill tried to make this interesting with goals with 8:59 and 6:18 to play, but then couldn't get any closer until they scored with 32 seconds left to settle the score at 12-10.

Andrew Dzubak paced the Wildcats with six goals and an assist while Kyle Parker was the only other Wildcat to score multiple goals. Seven different Wildcats ended up scoring on Wednesday night. Toby Templeton scored a goal and added two assists while Carter Earl had a goal and an assist.

Connor Widmer went 17-for-25 on faceoffs, adding eight ground balls. Tyler Quinn scooped up six ground balls while defender Quinn Tracy had four ground balls. Daniel Flynn made 13 saves in goal to guide the Wildcats.

The Wildcats have two games remaining in the regular season, starting with a home game next Tuesday against Caldwell. The opening face-off is set for 4:00 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.
