NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University men's lacrosse team secured the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament for the second straight year with a 29-3 victory over Caldwell on Senior Day on Tuesday at the WU Athletics Complex.
In the win, junior Andrew Dzubak set a new men's lacrosse single-game record with 12 points, scoring seven goals while adding five assists. He broke the mark of 11 points set by Dylan McCleaft against Chowan in the 2019 season.
The Wildcats were slow to score to begin the game, but once they broke the plane of the goal line, they never stopped. Toby Templeton scored with 6:06 to play in the first quarter to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead, and then four separate Wildcats all scored in the first, including goals from Andrew Dzubak and Josh Lovely with less than 30 seconds to play, to take a 5-0 lead after the first.
A 10-1 goal differential in the second quarter pushed the Wildcats lead out to 15-1. Andrew Dzubak scored five goals in the second quarter, including the final three goals starting with 1:21 left in the half. Tyler Quinn went coast-to-coast for his first goal of the day to give the Wildcats a 9-1 lead. He scored again with 4:34 to play for the 11-1 lead and then Patrick Craig got on the board with a goal with 2:28 left. Dzubak then scored goals with 1:21, :27 seconds, and :04 seconds left in the second quarter.
Seven different Wildcats scored in the third quarter, a 10-0 advantage to take a 25-1 lead after 45 minutes of play. Jon Gaglione had three goals in the quarter while Gavin Paraschak scored back-to-back goals for the Wildcats in the quarter.
Josh Weston scored twice in the fourth quarter before Dominick Scioli got on the board to round out the goal scoring, 29-3.
In addition to Dzubak's 12 points, the Wildcats were led by Patrick Craig's goal and six assists for seven points and Gavin Paraschak's three goals and three assists for six points. Tyler Quinn had a hat trick while Jon Gaglione added three goals and an assist. Connor Widmer went 12-for-14 at the face-off spot while Aidan Vicidomini went 12-for-17 as well.
The Wildcats outshot the Cougars, 87-20, in the contest.
With the No. 1 seed, the Wildcats will host a CACC Tournament Semifinal game on April 30 at the WU Athletics Complex. The time and opponent are still to be determined.
