NEWARK, Del. - - For the first time in program history, the Wilmington University men's lacrosse team will play in the NCAA Tournament, earning an at-large bid into the North Region bracket and will play at Seton Hill on Wednesday afternoon in Greenville, Pennsylvania.
The Wildcats (11-4) earned the No. 6 seed and will play at No. 3 Seton Hill (17-1). The Griffins won the GMAC Tournament Championship on Saturday over Walsh to earn an automatic qualification.
The Wildcats and Georgian Court become the first programs from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference to earn a spot in the North Region Tournament. Georgian Court won the CACC's automatic qualification by defeating the Wildcats, 9-8, in the CACC Tournament Championship on Saturday. Georgian Court earned the No. 8 seed for Regionals.
The top seed in the North is Adelphi who won the NE-10 title over St Anselm and is 15-1 on the season. The top seeded Adelphi will meet No. 8 Georgian Court, the CACC Champion in the NCAA First Round. The other first round matchups feature No. 4 seed Pace and No. 5 seed Molloy. Second seed St Anselm will meet No. 7 seed Bentley in the final first round matchup.
The winner of the Seton Hill/Wilmington matchup will meet the winner of the St Anselm/Bentley matchup in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Sunday, May 11th. The highest remaining seed will host the quarterfinal. The other quarterfinal will feature the winner of Adelphi and Georgian Court and Pace/Molloy.
The NCAA Semifinals will be played on Sunday, May 18th at the highest seed remaining. The Division II final will be played on May 25th at 4 PM at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.
