Hitchens, Place, and Flynn Named CACC Players of the Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - - A trio of Wilmington University student-athletes caught the eye of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with their performances last week, leading to being named the CACC Players of the Week.

On the softball diamond, Olivia Hitchen (Dagsboro, Del.) was named a CACC Pitcher of the Week for the second straight week while men's lacrosse's Logan Place (Aurora, Colo.) and Daniel Flynn (New York, N.Y.) anchored the defensive side of the ball in being named the CACC Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively.

Sophomore pitcher Olivia Hitchens was named a CACC Co-Pitcher of the Week, earning the distinction for the second straight week. She helped the Wildcats go 2-2, appearing in three games in the circle, going 1-0 with a save. In 8.2 innings, she didn't allow a run, giving up four hits while striking out four batters. Hitchens came on in relief at Goldey-Beacom, pitching the final 1.2 innings without allowing a hit and only two walks while striking out three to earn the save. She then pitched two scoreless innings in relief in game two as well. In her lone start last week, she allowed four hits in a five-inning complete game shutout against Felician.

In their lone game last week, the men's lacrosse team defeated Bridgeport, 17-6. Anchored by Logan Place and Daniel Flynn on the defensive side of the ball. Logan Place led the defensive unit with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. If the Purple Knights got around Place, Daniel Flynn was there, making 11 saves on 17 shots on goal. He also added a ground ball in the victory. Place and Flynn have the Wildcats at 8-4 overall and 6-0 in CACC play.

Josh Weston led the Wildcats' offense with three goals in the win over Bridgeport, earning a spot on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll. Haley Grygo batted .500 with three RBI to land a spot on the CACC Weekly Honor roll in softball while Tyler Pirrung hit .533 with five RBI and eight runs scored to be named to the CACC Weekly Honor Roll in baseball.
