NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Two Wilmington University student-athletes were named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Players of the Week by Commissioner Dan Mara on Monday.
Men's soccer Fredrik Bentdal earned CACC Player of the Week as volleyball's Dorie Moore was named CACC Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row.
Senior Fredrik Bentdal earned Player of the Week honors after scoring two goals in two games, including the game winning goal in overtime against No. 1 ranked West Chester last week. Bentdal's game winning goal came with just 24 seconds into overtime on a low cross from teammate Shawn Genus on the back post to put the Wildcats past the Golden Rams, which was the first time a Wilmington University team defeated the No. 1 ranked team in history. He finished with three shots on goal and four points on the week. The midfielder is currently tied for sixth in the CACC with five points.
Freshman Dorie Moore collected a total of 39 kills throughout four games for the Wildcats this past weekend. Moore finished with double-digit kills three out of the four matches played, including 12 kills and five digs against Franklin Pierce. She had a .282 hitting percentage to round out the tournament, along with eight service aces and 16 digs. She is currently fourth in the CACC with a .307 hitting percentage on the season and tied for 11th in the conference with teammate Bailey Andrews with 64 kills.
Volleyball's Mandy Behiels and Sarah Couch were both named to this week's honor roll. Behiels finished the Wildcat Regional Invitational with 45 kills and 52 digs in 17 sets played. The junior outside hitter had a double-double in each of the four matches she played in (kills, digs). Sarah Couch dished out 170 assists in the tournament while collecting a total of 34 digs. She also had two contests in which she secured a double-double (assists, digs), including the Wildcats wins over Le Moyne and American International.
