Wildcats Score Four Second Half Goals to Shutout Staten Island, 6-0

NEWARK, Del. – A hot second half for the Wilmington University men's soccer team gave them a 6-0 shutout win over the College of Staten Island on Wednesday afternoon in their final nonconference game of the regular season at the Complex.

The Wildcats (9-1-1) ended the Dolphins (6-4-1) five-game win streak with their fourth shutout of the season.

It was a slow start to the game, as neither team scored until Abdul Mansaray's rebound off the Dolphins goalkeeper in the 34th minute of play to give the Wildcats the 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, Wilmington would have a chance on a corner, but could not connect, before Ben Jordan knocked in a shot off the keeper again to give WilmU the two goal lead heading into halftime.

Wilmington would open the second half with four opportunities in front of the net, including two shots from both Mansaray and Jordan, but would fall short. Staten Island would have their best chance on goal with a shot in the 55th minute of play that curved from the far left side of the field which hit the top of the crossbar. Two minutes later, Ben Jordan scored his second goal of the game thanks to Davion Wedderburn, before Mansaray netted his second of the game from the far left post three minutes later.

The Wildcats final two goals would come from Dimitrios Anastasiou and Taiki Kinugawa, who made it 6-0. Anastasiou was tripped up in the box and scored off a penalty kick, as Kinugawa scored from outside the top of the box on a free kick with just four minutes left to play in regulation.

Abdul Mansaray netted his seventh and eighth goals of the season, as Ben Jordan secured his third and fourth of the year. Dimitrios Anastasiou and Taiki Kinugawa scored their first of the season. Davion Wedderburn and Hakim Williams got the assists. Gabriel Prgomet got his fourth shutout of the year, making two saves in the net.

Wilmington will now head to Bloomfield on Friday night, instead of Saturday to take on the Bears. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. at Foley Field.
