WEST HAVEN, Conn. - - The Wilmington University softball knew it had a spot in the 2014 NCAA East Region Tournament but the anticipation of where, when, and who it would be playing in the first round was still noticeable as the NCAA announced the field of 64 for the NCAA Division II Softball Regional Tournament this morning.
After winning their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, the Wildcats made an appearance in the regional bracket for the first time and will be traveling to the University of New Haven to play LIU Post on Friday, May 9.
The Wildcats earned the No. 8 seed for the East Region Tournament and will square off against No. 1 LIU Post, ranked 17th in the latest NFCA National Poll.
Also in the Wildcats' half of the bracket, No. 4 New Haven will be squaring off against No. 5 Southern New Hampshire later in the afternoon.
On the other side of the East Region Bracket, No. 2 Caldwell will square off against No. 7 Georgian Court (both teams the Wildcats defeated in the CACC Tournament), and No. 3 Adelphi will face No. 6 Queens (N.Y.). Those games will be played at Adelphi.
