NEWARK, Del. - - The College Sports Communicators announced its 2024 Academic All-District Softball Team, and three Wilmington University student-athletes were recognized as some of the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Representing the Wildcats on the CSC Academic All-District Team are All-Americans Sara Miller and Kylee Gunkel as well as All-Region performer Lexi Moore. The Wildcats are three of the 30 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference representatives on the All-District Team.

To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District nomination, the student-athlete must excel in both the field of play and the classroom. Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, AND compete in 90 percent of the institution's games or start in at least 66 percent of the games, along with several other criteria.

Sara Miller (Clayton, Del.) is a two-time All-American for the Wildcats on the field and graduated with an elementary education degree from Wilmington in the spring with a 3.65 grade point average. She led the Wildcats with 63 RBI this season and finished her career ranked second all-time with 160 runs batted in. Miller also led the team with a .685 slugging percentage this season, tying her own single-season record with 10 homers while adding 12 doubles and five triples, culminating in 61 total hits.

Kylee Gunkel (Highland, Md.) was named the CACC Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season while also earning D2CCA Honorable Mention All-American honors for the first time in her career. The junior is a health sciences major at Wilmington, earning a 3.67 cumulative grade point average through her six semesters. Gunkel went 22-6 in the circle this year, collecting a 1.55 ERA in 181.0 innings pitched. She was named the D2CCA East Region Pitcher of the Year, throwing 20 complete games with eight shutouts. She has won 20 or more games in each of her three seasons, closing in on the program's all-time wins record of 69 wins set by Caitlyn Whiteside.

Lexi Moore (Dover, Del.) was an NFCA All-Region performer for the Wildcats in 2024, finishing third on the team with a .406 batting average.
