Scouting the No. 5 Wilmington University Wildcats:
The Wildcats finished 20-26 overall for the 2026 season, with a 10-8 record in CACC play. After a slow start to the year that included a 13-game losing streak against tough competition in Florida, Wilmington closed the year on a high note by winning eight of their final twelve games. In the regular season, the Wildcats split their two games against the Tigers of Holy Family, winning 8-0 (5) and then losing 5-2 at Asbury Field.
Wilmington is led by a number of underclassmen on both sides of the ball, with sophomore Maddie Vollmar starring in both the outfield and the circle for the Wildcats. The 2025 CACC Tournament MVP is hitting .364 with a 1.169 OPS, the third-highest mark in the conference. She has excelled in hitting for extra bases, posting a CACC second-best .758 slugging percentage with five homers and seven triples, the latter of which is good for ninth in Division II. Freshman Addison Sabo is the team leader in batting, hitting .375 with 42 hits, while fellow freshman Mia Lane leads the team and is fourth in the conference with six home runs. Seniors Gabriella Saucedo and Jess Reed, meanwhile, are both hitting over .300, providing several key hits throughout the year.
The pitching duties have fallen to a quartet of sophomores, led by Olivia Hitchens. She finished the regular season with a 3.32 ERA, eighth in the CACC. Since the beginning of April, though, Hitchens has been exceptional, posting a 1.95 ERA in 46.2 innings of work with zero earned runs in eight of her 13 appearances. She's joined in the circle by Maddie Vollmar, who has pitched to a 4.90 ERA in 84.1 IP, Kasey Xenidis, who has a 4.20 ERA in 70.0 IP, and Karen Sickle, who had a 0.37 ERA in 19.0 IP in the month of April.
As a team, the Wildcats' strength has been in the field, registering the best fielding percentage in the conference at .962. At the plate, they rank 4th in the CACC in batting average (.288), 4th in home runs (18), 2nd in stolen bases (62-84), and 1st in sacrifice bunts (59). In the circle, they rank 6th in ERA (4.02), 1st in strikeouts (186), 3rd in opponent batting average (.284), and 1st in shutouts (9). Against conference opponents, the Wilmington pitching staff has posted a 2.73 ERA with 85 strikeouts, the second-best marks in both stats.
