Donte Dockery Regains National Lead in Triple Jump, Leading Track & Field at NYC Gotham Cup

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - - Donte Dockery regained the NCAA Division II lead in the triple jump, leading the Wilmington University track and field teams at the NYC Gotham Cup in the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex to kickstart the 2025 competition season.

Donte Dockery outjumped the competition by 1.28 meters, easily winning the event over 20 other jumpers. He regained the top spot in all of NCAA Division II this indoor season, sitting above the jump by Chadron State's Chayton Bynes of 15.47 meters this weekend as well.

Dockery was one of three Wildcats to set new personal records this weekend, joining a pair of throwers. Sam Distler set a new personal record in the Shot Put, finishing with a best toss of 13.98 meters to finish in seventh place overall out of 35 throwers. Christian Dollard set a new personal record in the Weight Throw, getting his second attempt in at 13.90 meters to finish 15th overall out of 31 placements.

On the track, a 24th place finish by Bostwick Patten in the 400-meter race led the Wildcats. He finished in 51.40 seconds while Chad Miller finished 35th in 52.26 seconds and Elijah Gillis finished 61st in 55.33 seconds. TJ Taiwo placed 44th in the 200-meter event with a time of 23.38 while Gillis finished 45th with a time of 23.41.

On the women's side, Sytieia Brown was the best finish of the day for the Wildcats, placing sixth overall in the shot put with a distance of 12.17 meters. Jada Obegi placed 15th in the shot put with a distance of 10.77 meters. Obegi then outperformed Brown in the weight throw, finishing 16th overall with a distance of 12.60 meters. Brown finished 31st in the weight throw with a 10.11 meter toss.

On the track, Deja Curry led the women with a 16th place finish in the 400-meter race, finishing in 1:01.17. Eliza Hildreth finished 39th in the event with a time of 1:05.49. Curry also ran in the 200-meter event, finishing in 43rd overall with a time of 27.19 seconds.
