COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - - The Wilmington University track and field team finished with seven top five performers while competing at the Frank Colden Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Ursinus College inside the Floy Lewis Bakes Center.
The runners produced six of the top five finishers, but it was a rookie thrower that led the Wildcats with a second-place finish on Saturday. Sytieia Brown set a new personal record in the shot put, finishing second overall with a distance of 12.58 meters.
On the men's side, Rayhan Issah had a pair of top five finishes, leading the Wildcats in the sprints. He finished fourth in the finals of the 60-meter dash, running in 7.09 seconds. He also placed fifth overall in a field of 56 in the 200-meter race, finishing with a time of 23.44 seconds. Elijah Gillis also reached the finals of the 60-meter dash, finishing eighth overall with a time of 7.21 seconds in the final.
Rob Powell jumped his way to a third-place finish in the long jump, finishing with a personal best 6.72 meter leap. He was only 0.06 meters off the pace, set by Jordan Jones of King's College (6.78 meters). Dan Wyshinski ran the mile to the fifth-place finish, setting a new personal record with a time of 4:31.22. He was only 1.23 seconds out of second place overall.
Christian Dollard set a new personal record as well, launching the weight throw 14.37 meters. He finished sixth overall out of 31 throwers.
On the women's side, Temi Mustapha and Deja Curry finished with top five performances in the sprints. Mustapha ran the prelims in 8.17 seconds to qualify for the finals, going even faster in the 60-meter finals to finish fifth overall with a time of 8.01 seconds. Deja Curry finished ninth in the prelims with a time of 8.27 seconds, just missing the top seven they took to the finals. Curry than took on the 400-meter event, finishing fifth overall with a time of 1:02.56.
The Wildcats are back in action this weekend, traveling up the road into Pennsylvania once again. The throwers will compete on Friday at the Indoor Classic Throws on the campus of Widener while the rest of the competitors will compete on Saturday at UPenn's Ott Center for the conclusion of the Indoor Classic hosted by Widener.
