STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - - The Wilmington University track and field teams kicked off its 2025-26 indoor slate by competing at the Fasttrack Season Opener inside the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in New York.
Friday's season opener was highlighted by Donte Dockery picking up where he left off from the outdoor National Championships last spring, winning the triple jump. The men's sprinters also shined on Friday, getting three inside the Top 10 of the 60-meter dash. The women had two student-athletes compete in the throwing events.
After finishing third at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor National Championship, Donte Dockery went right back to work, winning the triple jump on Friday. His best leap of the day was 15.40 meters, beating the field by .60 meters. Dockery also placed 5th in the long jump, finishing with a day's best 7.03 meters. Teammate Rob Powell placed seventh in the event, finishing with a best 6.91 meter leap.
In the 60-meter dash, the Wildcats were led by Xavier Bin-Yusif who placed third overall, running in 7.18 seconds. Elijah Gillis was just behind him with a 5th place finish with a time of 7.21 seconds. Rob Powell also finished inside the Top 10, placing 10th overall with a time of 7.28.
TJ Taiwo just missed the 60-meter hurdles finals on Friday, finishing 10th in the prelims with a time of 8.45 seconds. Taiwo also finished 10th overall in the 300-meter dash, finishing in 36.71 seconds. Xavier Bin-Yusif placed 11th overall in the dense 200-meter field, running in 22.58 seconds while Jaden Williams placed 16th overall with a time of 22.78 seconds and Elijah Gillis finished 19th overall with a time of 23.06 seconds.
In the throws pit, Christian Dollard placed fifth overall in the weight throw, finishing with a day's best 15.58-meter attempt. Sam Distler finished 10th overall in the shot put, finishing with a day's best 13.41-meter toss.
On the women's side, Ajeana Robinson finished sixth overall in the shot put with a day's best 11.36-meter toss. Sytieia Brown placed 10th overall with a best tows of 12.14 meters in the weight throw while Ajeana Robinson was right behind her in 11th place with a toss of 12.11 meters.
The Wildcats are done until the New Year, returning to action on Saturday, January 17 when they travel to Reading, Pennsylvania, to compete in the Alvernia Winter Invitational.
