CHESTER, Pa. - - The Wilmington University track and field teams started it 2026 outdoor season this weekend, competing at the Danny Curran Invitational hosted by Widener at the George A. Hansell Track.
The meet was highlighted by a pair of outstanding performances for the Wildcats, as Donte Dockery was up to his old ways in winning the triple jump and Julian Jones shined in a pair of events on the track,
Donte Dockery won the triple jump by nearly a meter, setting a new Danny Curran Invitational record with a distance of 15.37 meters. Rowan's Josua Justin was second in the meet with a distance of 14.42 meters. The jump lands Dockery in the Top 5 in the NCAA DII outdoor season so far, ranking fifth overall.
Julian Jones set a new Wilmington and CACC outdoor track record in the 5000-meter event, running to a third place finish with a time of 14:29.65. He was the first NCAA student-athlete to finish, behind only a pair of runners from Frontrunner AC. His time is now 22nd in NCAA DII for the outdoor season.
Rob Powell was the second best finisher for the Wildcats this weekend, placing second overall in the long jump. He had a distance of 6.73 meters, trailing only East Stroudsburg's Daniel Smith who had a distance of 6.97 meters.
Other Top 20 finishes on the men's side were Xavier Bin-Yusif who finished 16th in the 100-meter event with a time of 11.04 and Sklyer Pearson who placed 16th in the 800-meter event with a time of 1:58.46. Julian Jones also finished 13th overall in the 1500-meter race, crossing the line in 4:03.99.
On the women's side, Sytieia Brown placed fifth overall in the discus throw, finishing with a weekend's best throw of 38.11 meters. Brown also finished 14th in the shot put with a distance of 10.86 meters and 18th in the hammer with a distance of 40.59 meters. Ajeana Robinson placed 13th overall in the shot put, just ahead of Brown with a distance of 10.86 meters.
Makeda Lynch leaped to a 15th place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 9.95 meters while Maddie Minnick finished 18th in the 10000-meter race with a time of 41:49.18.
The Wildcats are in action again next weekend, traveling west to Millersville starting on Friday, April 3. The two day Millersville Metrics is on campus, hosted at the Biemesderfer Stadium.
