MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - - Julian Jones set two more school records on the track while Trinity Fortune-Medine added another in the field this weekend as the Wilmington University track and field teams competed at the Millersville Metrics this weekend at Biemesderfer Track on the campus of Millersville.
Julian Jones set new school marks in the 1500-meter and 10,000-meter events, helping the men to a 4th place finish out of 17 teams with 80 points. Trinity Fortune-Medine set a new school mark in the javelin, helping the women to seventh place finish with 29 points overall.
On Friday, Jones and the Wildcats competed in the 10,000-meter event, as Jones won the event by nearly five minutes, setting a school record time of 31:51.72. He surpasses the mark set by Trent Taylor in 2024. The mark is also the 87th best time in the NCAA DII outdoor season so far this year.
Jones then came back on Saturday to compete in the 1500-meter race, winning the event while setting another school record. He beat 32 other runners with a time of 4:00.01, over eight seconds faster than the second-place finisher. He took over the mark set by Daniel Wyshinski from 2023. He had 20 of the teams 47 points in two events.
Five other Wildcats finished inside the Top 12 in the 1500-meter race as well, led by Julian Rich in third with a time of 4:17.33. Reggie Hernandez was right behind him in fourth with a time of 4:17.50 while Cooper Schmidt led the next trio of Wildcats in 10th place with a time of 4:29.49. Carter Sparwasser was 11th with a time of 4:30.46 while Kevin Gonzalez was 12th overall with a time of 4:33.66.
A number of WilmU season's best were had on the men's side this weekend, as Jaden Williams made the finals of the 100-meter race with a 11.02 time in the prelims. He finished seventh in the finals for two points for the Wildcats. Donte Dockery had a WilmU season's best in the 200 and 400-meter races, placing sixth and third, respectively. In the field, Christian Dollard had a season's best 42.23 meters in the hammer for a fifth place finish, adding a sixth place finish with a 41.97 meter toss in the discus. Sam Distler had a season's best 13.61-meter hurl in the shot put as well.
Trinity Fortune-Medine set a new school record in the javelin, finishing eighth in the event with a distance of 30.35 meters. That reset the mark previously owned by Abigail Chomo from the 2023 CACC Championship (28.60 meters).
The women also had three WilmU season's best this weekend. Kamila Caraballo finished ninth in the 200-meter race with a season's best time of 27.11 seconds while the rest came from the field. Sytieia Brown set a new 2026 mark in the hammer throw with a distance of 44.91 meters, placing fifth overall. Makeda Lynch jumped to a new season's best in the long jump, finishing sixth with a jump of 4.87 meters. Aejana Robinson had a shot put toss of 11.43 meters as well, placing fourth in the competition.
The Wildcats will look for more school records and season's best next week as they make the short trip to the University of Delaware to compete in the Delaware Invitational starting on Thursday, April 9.
