NEWARK, Del. - - Two more school records fell for the Wilmington University track and field teams as the Wildcats competed at the Delaware Invitational on Thursday and Friday at the Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.
Christian Dollard started the Wildcats off with a program record in the hammer throw on Thursday, while Julian Jones was at it again, racing to a program record in the 1500-meter race on Friday.
The men had three winners in the meet, starting with Christian Dollard in the hammer throw on Thursday. Dollard's school record toss of 48.85 meters broke the mark set by Josh Varghese in the 2021 CACC Championship. Dollard finished first among 19 throwers on Thursday.
Rob Powell also won for the Wildcats, leaping a distance of 6.84 meters in the long jump. He beat a group of 16 jumpers, winning by .20 meters. Julian Rich was the other winner for the Wildcats, racing to victory and a meet record in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:29.36.
Julian Jones didn't win the 1500-meter, but still set a school record after finishing in second place. He would have also set a meet record, but it was Delaware State's Marian Drazan who beat his own meet record with a better time this year. Julian Jones' WilmU record time came at 3:50.68, the first Wildcat to ever break the four-minute mark in the event.
The Wildcats' 4x100-meter relay team would have also set a meet record on Friday, if it wasn't for the two teams that finished ahead of them. The combination of Jaden Williams, Xavier Bin-Yusif, Elijah Gillis, and Rob Powell saw the Wildcats place third overall with a time of 42.36.
On the women's side, the throws carried the Wildcats. Sytieia Brown won the shot put event while placing second overall in the Hammer throw on Thursday. Brown also finished second overall in the discus.
Brown won the shot put even with a day's best 12.00-meter toss, winning the event by just 0.01 meters over Emily Edelman form East Stroudsburg. Brown also finished second in the discus throw, throwing a day's best 40.16 meters.
Aejana Robinson also earned a podium on Thursday, placing second overall in the hammer throw. Her mark came down at 41.70 meters, 0.49 head of Goldey-Beacom's Jourdyn Rumph.
On the men's side, Jaden Williams and Xavier Bin-Yusif finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 100-meter dash while Williams added a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash.
The Wildcats are back in action on Thursday when they make the short trip to Lincoln (Pa.) to take part in the LU Invite.
