Four Wildcats Garner All-CACC Honors; Simmons Named Rookie of the Year

NEW CASTLE, DE – Wilmington College is pleased to announce that Amelia Simmons (Concord HS/Wilmington, DE), Sherrelle Holmes (Bodine HS/Philadelphia, PA), Nordia Henry(Cardinal Dougherty HS/), and Taurean Temple (Hodgson Vo-Tech/Newark, DE) were warded Women's and Men's Basketball All-CACC honors for their performances this past season.

Simmons, Holmes, and Henry were named to the third team, while Temple garnered honorable mention honors.  Simmons was also named CACC Rookie of the Year.   

Simmons, a freshman guard/forward, had a stellar freshman campaign.  Not only was she the Rookie of the Year, but she also was the only freshman voted to All-Conference.    Simmons led the Wildcats in many offensive categories, averaging 19.6 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.  She finished the regular season third in the conference in scoring, sixth in rebounds, and tenth in blocked shots (21). 

Holmes, a junior guard, ran the Wildcat offense.  She was second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.4 points per game.  Holmes led the conference in assists per game (6.52), was third in steals per game (2.48), and finished ninth in free throw percentage (.789).  Henry, a junior center, was a dominant presence in the post for Wilmington.  She was third on the team in scoring with 13.1 points per game (15th in the CACC).  Her 10.4 rebounds per game led the team, good for third in the CACC.  Henry also led the Wildcats in blocked shots with 41, an average of 1.52 per game (4th in the CACC). 

Temple, a swingman on the men's basketball team, led the Wildcats in almost every offensive category, despite only playing the second semester.  He averaged 23.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.  Temple led the team in scoring and was second in rebounds.  He was second in blocks (20), and third in steals (30).  He scored his 1,000th career point in the Wildcats last game (and lone win) of the season against Nyack College.
