NEW CASTLE, DE -- Wilmington University is pleased to announce that Amelia Simmons (Concord HS/Wilmington, DE), has been named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Honorable Mention All-American Team for her performance this past season.
The WBCA and State Farm announced the 2010 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II State Farm Coaches' All-America Team on Monday evening. The 10-member first team and 30-member honorable mention team were selected by a vote of the selection committee. The committee is comprised of one representative from each of the eight geographical regions and a chairperson.
Simmons, a senior forward, led the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and ranked third nationally in scoring this season. She finished her career with over 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds and graduated as the all-time leading scorer in Wilmington history. The native of Wilmington, Del., is a three-time All-CACC first team selection and was the 2006-07 CACC Rookie of the Year. She led the CACC with 21.8 points per-game, while also ranking third in rebounds (9.6), fourth in field-goal percentage (.486), sixth in free-throw percentage (.816) and she was the league-leader in three-point field-goal percentage (.461).
Earlier this year, she was awarded CACC Player of the Year honors, along with being named to the NCAA Daktronics All-East Region First Team. A second-team selection the past two seasons, she has also been a two-time member of the CACC All-Academic Team. Simmons becomes the first Lady Wildcat to earn All-American honors in the sport of women's basketball, since Wilmington made the move to NCAA in the fall of 2004.
