Shepherd Jumps Out Early On Way to 92-54 Victory over Women’s Basketball

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - - A prosperous first quarter sent Shepherd to a 92-54 nonconference victory over the Wilmington University women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon inside the Butcher Athletic Center.

The Rams (3-5) outscored the Wildcats (0-7), 30-6 in the first quarter, shooting 68.8 percent from the floor, including hitting five three-pointers in the opening frame. The Wildcats had 10 student-athletes score in the contest, but 38 turnovers led to 31 points for the Rams, including 12 for 12 points in the first quarter.

TyKeisha Hill put the Wildcats on the board in the game with a layup and then Aniyah Bond hit a three-pointer to give the Wildcats an early 5-4 lead. But the Rams then scored the next seven points and led 11-6 before scoring the final 19 points of the quarter to lead 30-6 after the opening 10 minutes. The Rams went 5-for-8 from deep in the quarter and 11-of-16 from the floor overall.

The Wildcats went 2-for-2 to start the second quarter and get it to within 22 twice but the Rams extended the lead out to as many as 30 in the quarter. The Rams won the second quarter19-13.

Shepherd scored the final seven points of the third quarter as well, going into the fourth with a 73-33 lead.

The Wildcats went on to win the fourth quarter, 21-19, shooting 9-for-20 from the floor, including three triples in the frame.

Jasmine McDuffie led the Wildcats with 10 points on Sunday, adding nine rebounds and two steals. Aniyah Bond and Mya Nisbet scored nine points each while TyKeisha Hill scored five points and grabbed a team high 11 rebounds while adding two assists and two steals.

The Wildcats open Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play on Tuesday night, welcoming in Georgian Court to the WU Athletics Complex. The women start the CACC doubleheader with an opening tip at 6:00 p.m.
