Emma Brown Collects Fifth Double-Double in CACC Loss at Felician

RUTHERFORD, N.J. - - A slow start doomed the Wilmington University women's basketball team on Saturday, dropping a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest at Felician, 85-52, inside Job Gymnasium.

Emma Brown collected her fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds, but the Wildcats (1-20, 0-13 CACC) were hurt by 12 first quarter turnovers and a slow start offensively. The Wildcats shot 0-for-14 from the floor in the first quarter.

Felician scored the opening 31 points of the game, using nine first quarter steals and shooting 11-for-18 from the floor, including hitting three three-pointers, to take control. The Wildcats got on the board with a free throw from Armani Bell-Jackson with 35 seconds left in the first quarter.

After the first quarter, the Wildcats and Golden Falcons played a 54-51 contest, with the Wildcats winning the fourth quarter, 18-14.

Thirteen of the Wildcats' 17 points in the second quarter came from the foul line, as they went 13-for-14 from the charity stripe. Emma Brown led the Wildcats with eight points in the quarter.

Six different Wildcats scored in the third quarter, led by Armani Bell-Jackson's five points. Felician outscored the Wildcats, 21-16, in the third, and then took their largest lead of the game, 75-34, early in the fourth.

The Wildcats outscored the Golden Falcons, 18-10, over the final 8:36 of the game though, with Emma Brown and Bene Butler scoring six points each.

Emma Brown led the Wildcats with 14 points, going 8-for-9 from the foul line. Bene Butler scored nine points off the bench, adding two rebounds, a steal, and a block. Armani Bell-Jackson added eight points while Sparkle Leigh scored seven points with three rebounds.

The Wildcats went 28-for-38 from the foul line as a team.

Wilmington returns to action on Tuesday night, making the short trip to Goldey-Beacom for another CACC contest. The opening tip is set for 6:00 p.m. inside the Joseph West Jones Center.
