DEPTFORD, N.J. - - The Wilmington University women's bowling team won four games on Saturday, finishing eighth overall at the 2026 Griffin Baker Classic, hosted by Chestnut Hill College at the Bowlero Deptford.
The Wildcats started Saturday 4-0, defeating Alvernia, Merrimack, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Norfolk State. They posted a day's best 865 in the first game of the day, defeating Alvernia, 865-819. Saturday ended with a loss to nationally ranked No. 24 Delaware State, 835-761, going 4-1 on the afternoon.
The Wildcats were in eighth place after the first day, compiling a total pinfall of 4,106 pins, going for a 164.2 game average.
Sunday started with one final Baker match, with the Wildcats falling to Adelphi, 904-873, to set up the Bracket Matches.
The Wildcats qualified eighth for the Bracket matches, facing off against Kutztown in the first Bracket game. The Wildcats fell behind the Golden Bears, 2-0, with a close loss in game two, 215-213. But the Wildcats won game three, 210-182, but had their backs up against the wall as Kutztown won game four, 213-146. The Wildcats stayed alive with wins in games five and six, 188-157, and 185-168, respectively, but couldn't complete the comeback as Kutztown won game seven, 190-157.
The Wildcats faced off against Felician in the seventh-place game, but fell to the Golden Falcons, 4.5-1.5. The match started with a 158-158 tie, giving each team the half-point. The Wildcats won game three, 182-173, to tie the match, 1.5-1.5, but couldn't find success again as the Golden Falcons won the next three games to close out the match.
Monmouth defeated Delaware State, 4-0, in the championship match to win the Griffin Baker Classic. Dominican placed third overall after defeating Fairleigh Dickinson in seven games.
The Wildcats will now prepare to host the Wildcat DII Invitational for their next tournament. The three-day event starts on Friday, February 13, at Bowlerama in New Castle.
