Genna Closs Places Sixth Overall as Bowling Hosts Wildcat DII/DIII Invitational

TURNERSVILLE, N.J. - - The Wilmington University bowling team hosted its annual Wildcats DII/DIII Invitational this past weekend, placing ninth overall while bowling at the Bowlero in Turnersville.

Genna Closs (Brookhaven, Pa.) finished a pin outside of the Top 5 in the individual standings on Friday, leading the Wildcats over the weekend. The Wildcats went 1-9 overall over the weekend to place ninth.

Friday started with five traditional matches at Bowlero, with the Wildcats going 1-3 with a bye to sit in eighth place. The Wildcats dropped games to Kutztown and Emmanuel before defeating Holy Family, 808-802. The day ended with a loss to Adelphi. They had a day's best 869 in a narrow loss to Kutztown, 872-869.

Genna Closs paced the Wildcats with a sixth-place finish in the individual standings, knocking down over 1,000 pins. She went for a day's best 233 in the win over Holy Family and also posted a 221 against Emmanuel. She collected a 1,006 five-match total, going for a 201.20 average, one pin from the Top 5 and All-Tournament Team status.

Dakota Banach finished 20th overall with a five-match total of 884. She had a day's best 188 against Emmanuel and again posted a 188 in the final match against Adelphi. She bowled a 176.80 average for the day.

Kali Siegel finished 28th overall with an 848 total pinfall, going for a 169.60 match average. She posted a day's best 191 against Kutztown. Gabriella Jiovany finished 36th overall with a 726 total pinfall, bowling a 145.20 average. She posted a day's best 197 in the narrow lost to Kutztown. Brianna Moss rounded out the Wildcats with a 46th place finish, bowling a 97.20 average for a five-match total of 486. She had a day's best 115 against Kutztown.

The tournament moved to five Baker matches on Saturday, as the Wildcats dropped four matches with a bye. They had a day's best 823 against Felician, and also bowled an 800 against Dominican.

That placed the Wildcats eighth overall in the head-to-head bracket play on Sunday, facing Daemen in the opening round. Daemen took the opening match, 4-0, and then Holy Family defeated the Wildcats, 4-0, to have the Wildcats finish ninth overall in the tournament.

Newman University defeated Kutztown, 4-0, in the championship to win the Wildcat DII/DIII Invitational. Dominican defeated Emmanuel, 4-1, to take third overall.

The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, February 28, taking on the other CACC counterparts in the second CACC Meet of the year. The two-day tournament is set to be hosted by Felician at the Parkway Lanes in Elmwood Park, New Jersey.
