ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. - - The Wilmington University women's bowling team secured a berth into the upcoming Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship, going 4-6 overall at the CACC Meet 2 hosted by Felician this weekend at Parkway Lanes.
Following the two CACC regular-season meets, the Wildcats are 6-14 overall, tying Holy Family for fourth place. But the Wildcats held the total pinfall tiebreaker in the four matches with the Tigers, earning the No. 4 seed in the upcoming CACC Championship.
This past weekend, the Wildcats went 2-3 in Traditional matches on Saturday and 2-3 in Baker matches on Sunday. Holy Family went 2-8 overall on the weekend, allowing Wilmington to come from behind and tie them in the standings.
On Saturday, the Wildcats lost traditional matches to Caldwell and Dominican but then defeated Chestnut Hill, 840-828. After a loss to Felician, the Wildcats ended Saturday with an important 874-784 victory over Holy Family.
Genna Closs led the Wildcats on Saturday with a sixth-place individual finish, bowling a 934 for a 186.80 average. She finished the day strong, bowling a 245 against Holy Family.
Dakota Banach placed 11th overall with a five-match total of 893 for a 178.60 average. She had a day's best 208 against Chestnut Hill. Kali Siegel placed 13th overall with an 870 total pinfall, bowling a 174.00 average. She had a day's best 191 in the first match of the day against Caldwell.
Gabriella Jiovany finished 17th overall with an 819 total pinfall, going for a 163.80 per match average. She finished strong as well, bowling a 195 in the win over Holy Family. Brianna Moss rounded out the Wildcats with a 27th place finish, bowling a 579 for a 115.80 average. She had a day's best 133 in the win over Chestnut Hill.
The tournament went to Baker matches on Sunday, as the Wildcats bookended the day with victories. They started with another key victory over Holy Family, 861-854, and then defeated Chestnut Hill, 786-741, to close out the day.
Dominican will be the top seed in the CACC Championship, going 16-4 in the two regular-season meets. Caldwell went 15-5 to earn the No. 2 seed while Felician will be the No. 3 seed with a 14-6 record. The CACC Championship will begin on Friday, March 20, at Pike Lanes in Southampton, Pennsylvania.
The Wildcats still have one regular-season tournament to close out the season, hosting the Northeast Region Roundup next weekend. The two-day tournament will be hosted at Bowlerama in New Castle, Delaware, starting on Saturday, March 14.
