Shawna Chopko
Junior season (2016) Started in 14 games on defense - finished fifth on the team in ground balls with 25 - finished with the second most caused turnovers on the team with 15 - had a season high 4 ground balls at Nyack on April 16 - She also had a big day on March 26th against Molloy with three ground balls and three draw controls.
Sophomore Season (2015): Played in all 18 games as a sophomore, making 16 starts on defense – finished fifth on the team with 32 ground balls – collected multiple ground balls in 11 games, including a season high four ground balls twice – picked up four ground balls against Chestnut Hill on March 25 and against Nyack on April 11 – collected a season high two draw controls on April 4 against Millersville – forced a season high two turnovers twice, first against East Stroudsburg on March 10 and against Nyack on April 11.
Freshman Season (2014): Played in 15 games on the season – recorded four goals- Scored two goals in a 16-13 win against Delaware St. – added nine ground balls and five causes turnovers on the year – forced two turnovers each against Post and at Philadelphia in back-to-back games.
At Temple: Played a season of field hockey at Temple in the fall of 2013, helping the Owls to a 14-6 overall record – the Owls reached the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinal, falling to eventual NCAA Division I Field Hockey National Champion UConn – team went 14-6 overall.
High School: Three year letterwinner in lacrosse at Newark High School for head coach Jaime Moore – earned Second Team All-Conference honors as a senior and was a two-time All-Conference honoree in lacrosse – also a four-year starter and two-time team captain on the Newark field hockey team for head coach Erin Manhugh – three-time All-Conference selection in field hockey – also a three-year letterwinner in track and field at Newark – was on the fourth place 4x200 relay team at the Delaware State Championship in 2012 – earned Women’s Athlete of Promise Award for the Delaware Women’s Alliance for Sports and Fitness in 2011 – academic all-conference and honor roll student all four years at Newark.
Personal: Shawna Clare Chopko – daughter of Tim and Cecilia Chopko – has a younger brother, Shane – had an uncle who wrestled at Delaware State – had an aunt who played volleyball at Drexel – majoring in finance at Wilmington University with aspirations of going into corporate law – from Newark, Del. – favorite pro sports team is the Flyers– if she could date a celebrity, she would date Chris Pratt – She enjoys doing yoga – favorite movie is 16 candles – the most played song on her iPod is Thomas Rhetts “T shirt” – Biggest pet peeve is when people say “got it” or “K” - Draws inspiration from her parents - If she could change one rule in her sport it would be to allow hits/crosschecks.
